FLORA, APAYAO, August 4, 2020 – Forty-one (41) individual farmers from barangay Lower Atok (20) and Malubibit Norte (21) were provided with 82 ewes and 41 rams under the Sheep Production Project of Apayao worth Php 1,934,100.00 under 2020 budget. Each beneficiary received three sheep: two ewes and one ram.
Provincial veterinarian, Ralph Verson, taught the farmers the ‘cut and carry’ way of feeding the sheep, which is to gather grass in the morning and feed it to the sheep in the afternoon, and then gather grass again in the afternoon to be fed the next morning. In this method, the farmers should gather grasses and not let the sheep feed on their own.
Mrs. Evelyn Cabulay, the Municipal Agriculturist of Flora, also shared how to tend to these animals.
“Dagitoy maited kanya u ket sapay kuma ta mapaado u. Nu adda sakit da, mapan kayo ijay office. Awan ti maited mi nga agas ngem libre ti serbisyo mi” [We are hoping that these sheep, which you will receive, will multiply. If these animals get sick, you should come to our office. We will not be able to provide medicines but our services are for free], Mrs. Cabulay shared.
Meanwhile, a beneficiary from Lower Atok, Mr. Peter Villamor, expressed how glad he is for the project.
“Thank you iti inted u kanyami, sapay kuma ta mapaado mi ta adu met ti maikkan mi” [We would like to thank you for your help. We are hoping that we can multiply these sheep so we can help more], he shared.
The beneficiaries were also encouraged to register their stocks to the Philippine Crop Insurance (PCIC) when the scheduled visit to their barangays will be set, said Mrs. Gladys Lamug, the SAAD Municipal Focal Person. ###
