SAAD gives 300 native chickens to five farmers’ associations in Zamboanga del Norte

GODOD, ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE – The Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program of the Department of Agriculture gave 300 native chickens to five farmers’ associations in Godod, Zamboanga del Norte on 29 June 2019.

The chickens provided are part of SAAD Zamboanga del Norte’s interventions for its FY 2019 Native Chicken Production in the municipality.

The Raba Farmers’ Association, Dipopor Farmers’ Association, Limbonga Farmers’ Association, Sarwagan Farmers’ Association, and Poblacion Farmers’ Association each received 60 native chickens as well as bolo knives and trowels.

According to the SAAD Area Coordinator in Godod, the project was chosen based on the preference of the farmers. The farmers said that the native chickens are not prone to diseases and able to reproduce quickly.

Meanwhile, the chickens delivered are from DA Region 9’s Mahayag Livestock Breeders Center.

Limbonga Farmers’ Association president Joel Porferio thanked DA Secretary Emmanuel Piñol for the SAAD Program’s assistance because it will be a big help to their livelihood.

The five associations also received assistance for peanut and corn production from the SAAD Program in 2017 and 2018. ###
