Maguindanao is a province in the Philippines located in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). Since 2014 the provincial capital is Buluan but the legislative branch of the provincial government, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, convenes in the old provincial capital in the town of Sultan Kudarat. It is bounded by Lanao del Sur to the north, Cotabato to the east, Sultan Kudarat to the south, and Illana Bay to the west.

Maguindanao is composed of 36 municipalities, further subdivided into 508 barangays. Cotabato City, although geographically grouped with Maguindanao, is administratively independent of the province as well as from the ARMM.

Corn plantation dominated 181,097 hectares in the province which yield a total production of 539,716.56 metric tons. Next is palay, which has a total harvest area of 154,026 hectares.

For livestock and poultry, carabao produces the most number of heads having an inventory of 83,478.

Maguindanao posted an increase in production for 2019 with a growth rate of 3.01 percent. The province contributes 15.73% in the total regional production in fisheries.

The volume of production in 2019 is 147,190.53 metric tons: 725.02 from commercial, 31,421.47 from marine municipal fishing, and 115,044.04 from aquaculture.

In terms of seaweeds production, the province contributes about 14.32% to the total production of the region of almost 700,000 metric tons of seaweeds.

The province of Maguindanao made a slight decrease of 5.1 of its poverty incidence rate among families, from 45.7 in 2015, it went down to 40.6 in 2018. This also means that a family of five must have an annual per capita poverty threshold of Php 25,368.00 to meet both the basic and non-feed needs.
Project Profile
The province of Maguindanao was chosen as one of the priority provinces of SAAD in 2017 until 2022 due to its high poverty incidence. It is considered as one of the poorest provinces with a poverty incidence of 54.5% among families based on the 2012 Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) poverty statistics report.

The conflicts among different groups is one of the major factors causing poverty in the area. However, SAAD sees it as an opportunity to provide help to the province.

Thirteen (13) of its municipalities were selected as SAAD beneficiaries based on the census of PSA 2012 which ranks among the poorest municipalities in the province.

A total of Php 43.7 million worth of livelihood projects were provided to 2,889 individual farmers and 26 groups in the province of Maguindanao. From 2017 to 2019.
