14 Dabawenyo FAs’ kick off egg production; expect peak sales during holiday season

DAVAO REGION, November 22, 2023 – Over a month of operating their poultry projects, fourteen (14) Dabawenyo farmers associations (FAs) have produced 56,794 table eggs, with an aggregate sales of Php 339,115.50 as of writing. The Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Davao Region funded the livelihood under the FY 2023 Chicken Layer Project.

The FAs expect peak production in the next two months alongside the holiday season. The FAs sell their eggs in their localities, mostly in neighborhood sari-sari stores.

“Kani man jud among gipangandoy nga proyekto… ug karon nga nagsugod na ug pangitlog, nalipay mi kay makasugod na pud mi ug pamaligya” [This is the project we’ve dreamed of. Now that it started laying eggs, we’re ecstatic because we can now start selling], Mrs. Meraya Torentira, chairperson for San Roque FA in San Isidro, Davao del Norte, said.

Layer Chicken Production Project

Last month, SAAD Davao Region distributed 300 layer chickens with a cage module system, various veterinary drugs, and 90 sacks of feeds to each FA. Paired with either corn or banana, the livelihood projects are designed to create community-based enterprises from the FAs.

The FAs are also set to receive egg weighing scales to round up the project’s implements. Two weeks ago, the program delivered egg trays and veterinary drugs to support the FAs’ production.
