14 Dabawenyo FAs receive egg trays, vet drugs as egg production support

DAVAO REGION, November 16, 2023 – Fourteen (14) farmers associations (FAs) across Davao Region received paper egg trays and various veterinary drugs from the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Davao Region to support the program’s layer chicken production project distributed last month.

Each FA received 500 paper egg trays, and veterinary drugs comprising antibiotics (doxycycline hydrochloride), multivitamins plus electrolytes, and egg-laying support vitamins.

“Sakto kaayo ang pag-abot sa tray kay nagsugod na jud ug pangitlog ang mga manok adlaw-adlaw” [The egg trays arrive at an opportune time because our chickens have been producing eggs daily], Mr. Alex M. Diabo, chairperson for Banoog CAA Farmers Association, said.

Seven (7) FAs in Davao Oriental, four (4) in Davao Occidental, two (2) in Davao del Norte, and one (1) in Davao del Sur benefitted from the implements.

SAAD’s Layer Chicken Production Project

Previously, SAAD Davao Region distributed 300 layer chickens with a cage module system and the first round of feeds. For FY 2023, the layer chicken project is the only animal-based project of the SAAD Davao Region.

The livelihood project, alongside crop-based implements of either corn and/or banana, was previously designed to create community-based enterprises from the FAs.

“Ato ning gi-plano ang layer chicken nga project para sa atong mga FAs nga maka-income jud sila. Ang feeds gi-tranching nato para ang pagpakaon tuloy-tuloy. Kung makatigom na sila, mapatuyok na nila ang kwarta sa pagpakaon ug uban pang panginahanglan sa ilahang grupo,” Alternate Assistant Focal Naomi Lamata remarked.

(We planned our layer chicken project for our FAs to earn income. We tranched the feed distribution so that the feeding won’t stop. Once the FAs earn, they can roll their finances and balance it between feeding and the other needs of their group.)

SAAD Davao Region expects the FAs to sustain the project by selling table eggs in their communities and to local egg suppliers. ###
