10 FAs from Palawan, Romblon expect increase in vegetable production thru DA-SAAD’s livelihood project

MIMAROPA, November 17, 2023 – To increase vegetable production in the provinces of Romblon and Palawan, 10 farmers’ associations received various interventions under the Vegetable Production Project of the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Phase 2.

Funded under FY 2023, the said project worth Php 3,898,697.80 is composed of 10 sets of farm tools, 200 liters of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium (NPK)  liquid and micronutrient fertilizers, 10 plastic crates, 6 plastic drums, 20 rolls of plastic mulch, a pump and engine set with complete accessories, 149 seedling trays, and 88 packets of vegetable seeds (Table 1).

The FAs with 225 total members (25 members each) each cultivated a communal farm (10,000 sqm) within their respective barangays, striving to ensure enough vegetable supply for local consumption and generate income, at the same time.

(I am thankful to the DA for having such a project that can help my fellow villagers or the town in reaching our goals of making our land productive. We will really strive to ensure that everyone benefits from the project, especially the people in our community.)

As of October 2023, said beneficiaries are now tending to their crops while SAAD MIMAROPA has successfully delivered 82% of the interventions under the Vegetable Production Project and is currently awaiting for the distribution of the remaining planting materials. ###
