DAVAO DE ORO, September 30, 2021 – The Quarry Highlanders Farmer’s Association with 61 members from Barangay Ngan, Compostela, Davao de Oro was selected as one of the 9 group beneficiaries of the Department of Agriculture (DA) – Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program. The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 11 distributed the inputs for the FY 2021 Tilapia Grow-Out Culture in Freshwater Fishpond Project worth Php 90,939.50.
Prior to the distribution, the members were equipped with knowledge on tilapia grow-out culture and management in freshwater from September 13-14.
A total of 1,248 square meters’ (m2) pond area will be cultivated for the 3,800 pieces of tilapia fingerlings to be stocked in the second week of October, once the land preparation is done.
To date, the members are in the process of excavating the fishpond, dividing it into four compartments with each pond measuring at least 300m2.
Agricultural supplies such as feeds and materials for the fishpond preparation were also provided to the group.
The group was established on July 17, 2016 to help both members and non-members in their community get livelihood assistance from government agencies and non-government organizations.
Group Secretary Arlyn Mataro said, “Namugna ni nga grupo sa Barangay Ngan, Compostela, kinsa nagtinguha nga magtinabangay, aron makab-ot ang kasulbaran sa kawad-on pinaagi sa pagtinabangay aron mapataas ang kahimtang sa panginahanglan ug makabaton ug makiangayon, malambuon ug malinawon nga nagpuyo sulod sa barangay uban sa pagtuo nga pinaagi lamang sa hiniusang kusog, makab-ot ang gitinguhang kalambuan, dili lamang alang sa mga miyembro kung dili lakip sa tanang lumulupyo sa lungsod sa Compostela.”
