Basay and Siaton cattle raising

Fifteen farmers of Cabalayongan Farmers Savings Association (CFSA) in Basay, Negros Oriental received specialized training in Cattle Feedlot and Management Practices with assistance from DA’s Livestock Program and Regulatory Division.

Cattle production and fattening as well as forage establishment were discussed during the lecture. A demonstration on silage-making was also conducted to help secure cattle feed when drought season comes.

Each farmer also received interventions which included one female cattle (Php 33,000 per head), one bag of grower feeds (Php 1,650), and vitamins (Php 522). All in all, the total project cost provided to CFSA is Php 525,580.

On the other hand, the Tayak Proper Farmers Association (15 members), Mainit Tayak FA (10 members), and Cabangahan Tayak FA (10 members) in Siaton also attended the said training.

Each group received five male cattle (Php 33,000 per head), one bag of grower feeds (Php 1,650), and vitamins (Php 522). The intervention has a total cost of Php 525,580.

A shredder for forage worth Php 330,000 was also provided to be shared by the groups, which are part of the Siaton Municipal Federated Farmers Association (SIMUFFA).

For sustainability purposes, the association will adopt a pass-on scheme for the identified next-in-line beneficiary.

The beneficiaries are obliged to inform the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist through the association of the sold cattle and give 30% share from the gross sales. This means that 70% of the sales will go to the farmer while 30% will go to the association.
