DA-SAAD turns over Php 10.7M to boost poultry and livestock in Siquijor

SIQUIJOR, May 18, 2021- The Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program in Region 7 turned over Php 10.7 million to the provincial local government unit (PLGU) to boost cattle, goat, and chicken production.

Through the Provincial Agriculture Technology Coordinating Office (PATCO) of Siquijor, the funds were handed over to the Provincial Veterinary Office to carry out the FY 2019 Upgraded Cattle and Goat Production Project and FY 2020 Chicken Egg Production Project.

The office will be in charge of procuring the agricultural supplies and conducting training for the farmers.

The Upgraded Cattle and Goat Production Project worth Php 6,076,000 will be used to procure 100 upgraded cattle and 60 packets (four female and 1 male goat per packet) of upgraded goat. The 100 recipients of the cattle project will automatically become members of the Siquijor Cattle Producers Association (SICAPA) while the 60 recipients of the goat project will become members of the Siquijor Island Goatery Producers Association (SIGPA).

On the other hand, the Php 4,640,000 was allocated for 50 modules (48 chickens per module) of the Chicken Egg Production Project inputs. A pair of farmers will receive one module of chicken, totaling to 100 individual beneficiaries.

During the ceremony at the Siquijor Provincial Capitol, Governor Zaldy S. Villa expressed his gratitude to the DA and the SAAD Program for its continued support to the agriculture sector in the province.

The SAAD Program projects in Siquijor started in 2018 with the collaborative efforts of DA Regional Office, DA-PATCO Siquijor, PLGU-Provincial Veterinary Office, Municipal Agriculture Offices, and the LGUs.

SAAD fulfills DA’s twin goals of Masaganang Ani at Mataas Na Kita by assisting the farmers in marginalized areas produce crops, livestock and poultry and developing their livelihood into agri-enterprise. ###
