ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE, May 14, 2021 – The Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program in Region 9 delivered 266 modules (48 chickens per module) or approximately 12,768 chickens to 33 farmers’ cooperatives (FCs) and associations (FAs) in Zamboanga del Norte (ZaNorte). The Layer Chicken Raising Project worth Php 14,616,700 was distributed from May 4 -13 in 15 municipalities.
According to Provincial Coordinator Ronillo Dusaban, the project is one of the booming enterprises implemented by SAAD. “We are in the process of expanding the layer chicken production project because of the high demands of fresh eggs in the community,” said Dusaban.
Ubay FA President Emily Simona from Piñan said that the additional modules of chicken are a great help to them in supplying more eggs for their community.
“Since the prices of meat are high, the people resort to buying eggs as their viand – this is why the expansion of this project is very timely. We are very blessed because aside from the chicken and feeds, we also received a delivery vehicle to transport these eggs to our regular customers,” Simona said, expressing her gratitude for the opportunities given to the farmers.
The other groups which received the project are:SAAD aims to assist poor farmers in developing enterprises in support of the DA’s twin goal Masaganang Ani at Mataas Na Kita. ###
