Misamis Occidental farmers receive P11.6m worth of livestock, seeds, machinery

MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL, January 16-17, 2020 – The Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program farmer-beneficiaries in the province received Php 7.4 million worth of livestock, seeds, and other interventions under the Integrated Agricultural Livelihood Project for FY 2019.

The program distributed swine, cattle, goats, a set of garden tools, vegetable seeds, bags of chicken dung, and sweet corn seeds to the municipalities of Panaon, Baliangao, and Concepcion.

On the 16th of January 2020, 70 farmer-beneficiaries from the municipality of Panaon received 40 heads of upgraded heifer and 30 heads upgraded gilt. In her speech during the distribution ceremony, Panaon Vice Mayor Crisanne Ann Marie Paylaga Macias encouraged the farmers to take care of the animals as these will also be their other source of income.

Last December of 2019, the initial interventions of the above package were given to Baliangao beneficiaries and were completely distributed to one hundred fifty (150) beneficiaries last January 21, 2020.

For the Abaca Production Project, aside from the livestock and seeds package given, the program also provided Php 4.2 million worth of machinery. Granted are three units of abaca spindle-stripping machine and three units of decorticating machine to 30 farmers in Concepcion on January 17, 2020. Guiban, Small Potongan, and Virayan are the additional barangays that also received the said intervention. Upon distribution, the demonstration of the machine operation was done by the supplier. For Abaca to operate, representatives from the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority are set to conduct the second demonstration this February 2020. ###
