LEON B. POSTIGO, ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE – The Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) delivered durian, lanzones, and mangosteen seedlings in the remote barangay of Nacibac, in the municipality of Leon B. Postigo, Zamboanga del Norte in August 27, 2019.
The delivery was under the SAAD’s upland corn farming project, which was inspired by the Sustainable Corn Production in Sloping Area (SCOPSA).
The recipients of the seedlings were members of the Nacibac Mountainside Farmers Association, a group beneficiary of the SAAD Program. The group consists of 60 members.
The local government of Leon B. Postigo thru the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist, led by Ms. Evelyn Catayas, and SAAD Area Coordinator Omar Muqtar Loong, oversaw the delivery of 5,400 seedlings (1,800 seedlings each for durian, lanzones, and mangosteen) as well as 10,000 pineapple suckers.
The seedlings will serve as hedgerows to reduce soil erosion in the beneficiary’s corn farms.
The Nacibac Mountainside Farmers Association expressed its utmost gratitude for the assistance of the SAAD program. ###
