100 Sindangan farmers received inputs for Upland Rice Production

ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE – The Department of Agriculture (DA) through its Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) in Zamboanga del Norte conducted a ceremonial turnover of inputs for Upland Rice Production to 100 farmer-partners of the municipality of Sindangan on December 7, 2018.

The Upland Rice Production project in Sindangan for 2018, covering 100 hectares, aims to establish an agricultural community by providing capability-building and new technologies in the production of upland rice for the province.

Each farmer-partner received 2 bags of upland rice seeds, 2 bags urea, 2 bags complete fertilizer, and 20 bags of vermicast. These inputs will be used during the first cropping season for 2019.

The farmer-partners are expected to start the upland rice planting in March 2019 while the harvesting is in July 2019.

Also present at the event are the following: Sindangan Mayor Nilo Florentino Sy, SAAD Region IX Alternate Focal Person Reynaldo Campomanes, SAAD Region IX Action Officer Ralph Alan Ceniza, SAAD Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Coordinator Ronillo Dusaban, Sindangan Agriculturist Technician Edelisa Jamisola, and Sindangan Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) representative Luz Dela Cruz.

Close coordination with the Sindangan MAO and farmer-partners will be done to ensure the project’s maximum potential success. ###
