September 6, 2018

NEGROS ORIENTAL—Under its CY 2018 funds, the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) conducted another training under its Social Preparation component at Barangay Apanangon, Jimalalud Negros Oriental on 10-11 April 2018. Another batch was also held at Brgy. Pacuan, still in Jimalalud Negros Oriental on 12-13 April 2018.

The Specialized Training on Upland Rice Production aims to share knowledge on Upland Rice Production and is tailor-fitted to Farmer Associations with SAAD farmer-beneficiaries as members. This seeks to further assist them in the improvement their established livelihood.

Organizing the said training are SAAD Negros Oriental Provincial Coordinator (PC) Mr. Jaypee S. Soldivillo together with the rest of the SAAD-PPMSO staff; with support from the Provincial Agriculturist Office (PAO) personnel Ms. Virginia G. Tadiaman, Mr. Roy Serion, and Mr. Clarence Cabrera; as well as Local Government Unit (LGU) support staff from Brgys. Apanangon, Lacaon, Pacuan, Eli, and Buto.

The PAO discussed various topics such as Upland Rice Production, Pest Control, Land Preparation, Values Formation, and Leadership.

The SAAD staff also facilitated the conduct of LogFrame in Brgys. Apanangon, and Pacuan—which aims to list down projects that they need. Needs like carabao and FMR or Farm-To-Market roads were identified.  However, the implementers stressed that some of the items from the wish list are still subject for approval. The activity, however, let the farmer-beneficiaries have a voice in the consultation process. ###
