298 Lanao del Sur farmers receive livestock assistance from SAAD

LANAO DEL SUR – The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office (DA-RFO) X, as the implementing unit of the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program in the province of Lanao del Sur, delivered 74 goats, 144 cattle, and 13 carabaos to benefit 298 farmers from six municipalities on April and June 2018.

Forty-eight SAAD farmers from the municipality of Marantao are the first to receive 48 cattle worth P1.05M on April 22, 2018.

The municipality of Marogong with 34 beneficiaries got 34 heads of goat worth P153,000.

Twenty-six farmers from Madalum obtained 26 heads of cattle worth P780,000 while 40 farmers from the same municipality also received 40 heads of goat worth P180,000.

Meanwhile, three organizations from Pagayawan, which are Ngingir Bubong Farmers’ Association, Linindingan Farmers’ Association, and Bangon Farmers’ Association with a total of 104 SAAD farmer-partners, were also bestowed 37 heads of cattle worth P1.11M.

The distribution of livestock in Marogong, Madalum, and Pagayawan were conducted simultaneously on April 23, 2018.

In Sultan Dumalondong, 33 farmers got 20 heads of cattle and 13 heads of carabaos worth P990,000 while in Malabang, 13 farmers received 13 heads of cattle worth P390,000. They were given at the same time on June 6, 2018.

The cattle and carabaos were awarded as draft animals. On the other hand, the goats were dispersed for production purposes.

SAAD Lanao del Sur covered the said six municipalities in 2017 along with 10 other municipalities.

The municipalities were chosen due to their high poverty incidence rate among families based on the 2012 data of the Philippine Statistics Authority. They are listed as follows: a) Marogong at 76.2%, b) Sultan Dumalondong at 73%, c) Pagayawan at 71.6%, d) Malabang at 68.1%, e) Madalum at 60.9%, and f) Marantao at 60.2%. ###
