CARAGA REGION, October 2, 2024 – The Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program supported the growth of Farmers Associations (FAs) in Caraga by providing agricultural assistance that fostered the holistic development of farmers.
This initiative seeks to improve agricultural practices while promoting core values that encourage social solidarity and personal growth among members.
The distribution occurred from September 11 to 12 for the associations in Dinagat Islands, and on September 18 to 19 in Siargao Islands, Surigao del Norte. The educational booklets were given to associations in Santa Monica, San Benito, San Isidro, Pilar, General Luna, and Del Carmen in Siargao, as well as Libjo, Tubajon, and Dinagat in the Dinagat Islands.
The locally translated Values Formation Booklet covers essential topics such as Understanding Values and Their Importance, Identifying Personal Values, Recognizing Organizational Values, and Correlating Personal and Organizational Values. It addresses qualities, beliefs, and feelings that influence decision-making and behaviors, illustrating how values guide actions, judgments, and attitudes.
In May of this year, DA-SAAD Caraga conducted Training on Values Formation for SAAD beneficiaries. These sessions aimed to empower farmers in their daily lives and enhance their decision-making skills when interacting with other members. Farmers shared experiences and challenges, fostering mutual support and learning.
The regional program management aims to distribute educational materials to 700 members of farmer associations in the Caraga region. As of date, about 450 hard copies have been distributed, with ongoing efforts to deliver the remaining booklets to farmers in Agusan del Norte and Surigao del Norte.
The sustainable approach of the SAAD Program continues to provide beneficiaries with opportunities to learn and implement projects that uplift marginalized communities economically. ###
