CARAGA REGION, October 23, 2024 – To provide updates on the ongoing implementation of projects for beneficiaries in Phases 1 and 2, the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) held its 3rd Quarter FY 2024 Meeting at the DA Conference Room in Butuan City last September 26, 2024.

During the meeting, SAAD personnel, including Provincial Coordinators and Area Coordinators from Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands, presented consolidated provincial updates. They discussed the challenges, concerns, and issues faced by SAAD beneficiaries and explored recommendations to enhance project effectiveness and sustainability. The updates also highlighted the progress made within their provinces, fostering collaboration and shared learning among beneficiaries. 

In addition to the provincial updates, staff from the program unit and sub-units provided insights on major components of the SAAD Program, including Social Preparation and Program Management, Food Production and Livelihood, Marketing Assistance and Enterprise Development, and Public Relations and Development Communications. Their discussions were essential for gaining a comprehensive understanding of the program’s overall status and impact.

The agenda included a review of the Status of Fund Utilization, which focused on both the FY 2024 and the FY 2023 Continuing Fund. Updates on obligations, disbursements, and the current status of procurement processes were provided, ensuring transparency and accountability in fund management.

SAAD Alternate Assistant Melody M. Guimary emphasized the role of Area Coordinators in providing continuous support to farmers. She underscored the importance of transforming livelihood interventions into fully established Community-Based Enterprises (CBEs) to ensure long-term sustainability and empower local communities.

Attendees at the meeting included Agricultural Provincial Coordinators and members of the Regional Program Advisory Committee, both of whom play essential roles in achieving the objectives of the SAAD Program. Their collaborative efforts aim to improve agricultural practices and enhance the livelihoods of farmers throughout the region. ###
