SAAD commences goat training of beneficiaries; trains 25 IP farmers in DavOcc

DAVAO OCCIDENTAL, April 30, 2024 – The Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Davao Region has conducted training on goat rearing and production for twenty-five (25) Blaan farmers of the Dalupan Renewable Energy Community Development Association (DARECDA).

The training which commenced last April 22, is in conjunction with the delivery of upgraded goats to the association. Facilitated by the program and assisted by the province’s and municipality’s agriculture office, the training focused on basic goat raising practices, proper feeding and housing requirements, and health management.

“Tungod aning training, nakakat-on kami kung unsaon pag-atiman aning kanding para masiguro namo ang tamang pagpang-uma niini,” said DARECDA Chairperson Geniars Masayao.

[Because of the training, we’ve learned how to properly tend to the goats so that we can ensure the right farming techniques for it.]

On April 11, the association previously received 43 upgraded goats from the program, alongside veterinary drugs. For DARECDA, the upgraded goats production project is paired with an abaca production project, based on the results of the association’s participatory rural appraisal.

Upgraded goat is one of the three main animal-based production projects of SAAD Davao Region this year. The program targets to deliver the project to eight (8) FAs across four provinces of the region during Q2, which may overarch to Q3.

“Ang expectations ni SAAD nga amomahon ug ampingan nila kani nga proyekto aron mulambo ang ilahang asosasyon. Ang gusto maabot ni SAAD, maka-tukod na sila ug CBE,” Community Development Officer II for SAAD Davao Region Aniel Balorio, remarked.

[SAAD expects that they’ll care for and make the most out of these projects for their association to prosper. SAAD’s goal is for them to create community-based enterprises.]  ###
