SAAD begins municipal orientation in Barlig, Mountain Province

BARLIG, MOUNTAIN PROVINCE, October 27, 2023 – The Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program Phase 2 in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) started municipal orientation in Barlig, Mountain Province. 

Held on  June 22, 2023, 62 representatives from the Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) of Barlig, as well as two (2) identified farmers associations (FAs) from barangays Gawana and Fiangtin, attended the said orientation.

Barlig is classified as a 5th class municipality according to Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) 2018 data. During the orientation, Ms. Aida Pagtan, Regional lead for the Social Preparation Component of SAAD Phase 2 presented the implementinguidelines for the program. These guidelines encompassed crucial aspects such as the project’s background, objectives, program framework, and program components. The discussion focused on a comprehensive explanation of the four program components, with particular emphasis on the development of community-based enterprises.

After the said orientation, the regional implementers actively engaged in a workshop with representatives from LGU of Barlig, as they raised their  agricultural activities within their community. Among the identified potential livelihoods are swine and coffee production, as well as lemon and organic vegetable farming.

Following the said orientation, SAAD CAR will cater four (4) FAs from two (2) barangays of the municipality of Barlig. Target livelihood interventions will be finalized in the following year of 2024. ###
