30 Sarangani farmers record 12.2mt corn harvest; gross Php 108K

SARANGANI, October 13, 2021 – Thirty (30) members of Larangan Farmers Association (LFA) in Kablacan, Maasim in Sarangani recorded 12.2 metric tons (mt) corn harvest, which secured their income, food, and next production cycle.

The group is a beneficiary of the Department of Agriculture (DA) – Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program FY 2021 Integrated Corn Production with Poultry, Vegetable, and Postharvest Equipment Project.

Having a 30 hectares’ production area, LFA initially harvested 188 sacks (65 kilograms/sack) from 18ha on October 8.

The association sold 98 sacks priced at Php 17/kg and earned Php 108,920 gross income. The remaining 88 sacks were kept for food consumption, 40 sacks for replanting in the next cropping, and 10 sacks as tithes to the church.

LFA planted the corn seeds in succession, and the harvesting process of the remaining 12ha is ongoing.

About the project

Prior to the distribution of farm inputs in May 2021, the group was equipped with knowledge on corn production management.

The project package worth Php 950,800 includes 60 bags of an open-pollinated variety of corn seeds, 120 bottles of foliar fertilizer, 6 knapsack sprayers, corn mill, corn sheller, 330 Muscovy ducks, 150 packs of pinakbet seeds, 30 shovels, 30 bolos, and 30 hand trowels. ###
