60 Siquijor farmers receive human resource management, financial literacy training

SIQUIJOR, August 27, 2021– The Department of Agriculture (DA) – Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program in Region 7 conducted a four-day training on Human Resource Management and Financial Literacy for 60 beneficiaries in Gabayan and Campalanas, Lazi, Siquijor.

The activity was first conducted at the Gabayan Covered Court, Gabayan from August 3 to 4 and then at Campalanas Chapel, Campalanas from August 5 to 6.

Basic financial literacy and human resource management were introduced to farmers, which will help them effectively manage money and manpower for their agricultural enterprises.

Agricultural Center Chief-III of DA-Provincial Agricultural Technology Coordinating Office (PATCO) Siquijor and DA-Siquijor Research and Development Center (DA-SRDC) head Gregolito E. Bunado expressed his hopes that the farmers will apply their learnings from the training to help them with their goals.

“At the end of the training, we hope that the farmers will have a clear understanding of basic financial terms and concepts so that they can make effective decisions about their finances. During the training, we also emphasized the importance of farm record-keeping in entrepreneurship,” shared Provincial Coordinator Agnes Guanella M. Café.

Claire Fits Tinay, a corn-peanut farmer from Lower Cabangcalan, thanked the implementers for conducting the training. She believes it will help them in their daily lives and livelihood.

Daghang salamat sa DA-SAAD, sa training nga gihatag nila ka namo. Kini amo kining magamit sa adlaw-adlaw nga panginabuhi kanamo (Thank you so much to DA-SAAD for providing us with training. This will help us in our daily living and with our livelihood)”, she said.

Aside from the training in which the farmers are in deepest gratitude, Dragon Fruit Pioneer Producers Association of Siquijor member Lenilla Suan also thanked the SAAD Program for the interventions they received.

Suan and other training participants from barangays Gabayan, Lower Cabangcalan, and Campalanas were provided livelihood projects for the production of corn, peanut, dragon fruit, upgraded goat, and upgraded cattle.

DA-SAAD Region 7 in Siquijor already delivered Corn-Peanut Production Project inputs from 2018 to 2020 where each of the 41 farmers received Php 26,929.75 worth of inputs.

In 2019, 8 dragon fruit farmers each received Php 225,698 worth of interventions under the FY 2018 budget.

In January 2020, each of the four farmers received Php 54,599 worth of interventions for goats while 6 farmers received Php 40,000 worth of cattle each. ###
