BOHOL, August 25, 2021– The Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program in Bohol equipped 17 technicians to train 300 beneficiaries of the 2021 Integrated Carabao Production at Reynas the Haven Garden, Tagbilaran City, Bohol from August 12 to 13.
The technicians were from five SAAD covered areas, Buenavista (2), Getafe (2), Bien Unido (1), Mabini (1), and Carlos P. Garcia (1); Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (1); and SAAD provincial staff (9). Also present in the training were SAAD Bohol Focal Person Ms. Leonila G. Gono and APCO Bohol Mr. Roman M. Dabalos.
Ubay Stock Farm Veterinarian Ma. Maureen M. Manito emphasized the need to take extra care of the carabao from providing shelter up to ensuring proper nutrition as this will guarantee productivity.
She discussed the industry of the animal as well as ways to handle, manage, and breed it. Deworming and vaccination were also taught to maintain the health of the carabaos.
Meanwhile, Ubay Stock Farm Science Research Specialist I Mr. Jose Edu A. Escudero discussed the importance of managing feeding, forage, and animal health care.
The 2021 Integrated Carabao production project under SAAD livestock program has a total budget of Php 11,093,610 for intervention which included drugs and biologics, plow, and carabao.
The project aims to reduce farm production cost per cropping season by no longer hiring draft animals for farm operation and to generate extra income from milk and other by-products.
The training of farmers will be conducted at the municipal level prior to the distribution of 300 carabaos. ###
