Siquijor farmers take a step towards agripreneurship

SIQUIJOR, June 1, 2021- Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agriculture Development (DA-SAAD) Program’s Corn-Peanut Production beneficiaries sold all their fresh and processed products at the Province of Siquijor Electric Cooperative (PROSIELCO) Solidarity Hall, Nonoc in Larena.

Despite the postponing of the DA’s KADIWA ni Ani at Kita market launching, members of the Cambalagio Balogo Corn and Peanut Growers Association, Hugpong sa mga Makugihong Magbabaol sa Cang-asa, and Ms. Princess Honey Buot sold Php 5,259.50 worth of vegetables, corn, and peanut products.

Fortunately, PROSIELCO’s cooperative members and workers supported the farmers by purchasing their products.

They are now aware of which crops and processed products to produce more and what the market requires.

“Daghan kaayong salamat sa SAAD ug sa atong gobyerno sa supporta nga among nadawat sa pagpananum hangtod sa pagbaligya sa among mga produkto,” Ms. Abante said.

(I am grateful to SAAD and the government for their assistance from the time we began planting until we were able to market our processed products.)

Hugpong sa mga Makugihong Magbabaol sa Cang-asa from barangay Cang-asa, Siquijor, Siquijor was represented by their president, Mr. Glen Tambajoyot. He started selling at around 8:00 am and his assorted vegetables were sold out an hour later. He said that he will bring more fresh farm produce and more members to assist him in the selling next time.

Princess Honey Buot of Ponong, Siquijor, Siquijor, on the other hand, is an FY 2018 recipient who began selling her peanut roll as well as other maize and peanut-based items in 2020.

They are all still planning to attend the KADIWA ni Ani at Kita, which was rescheduled on June 21. ###
