Siayan farmers earn Php 26,560 in 4 days through SAAD’s Layer Chicken Raising Project

ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE, April 21, 2021- The Litolet Consumers Cooperative (LICONCO) earned Php 26,560 by selling 124 trays of eggs produced from the Layer Chicken Raising Project of the Department of Agriculture-Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program from April 17 to 20.

With the coordination of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Siayan, 58 trays were displayed at the Municipal Agriculture Office and bought by locals in the community while 66 trays were purchased by Siayan Pangkabuhayan Federation of Cooperatives.

Each tray contains 30 pieces of eggs priced depending on its size – small at Php 170, medium at Php 180, large at Php 190, x-large at Php 200, and jumbo at Php 210.

LICONCO’s Layer Chicken Raising Project

The 25 members of LICONCO are beneficiaries of the Layer Chicken Raising Program since 2018 where they received a total of Php 1,896,610 interventions for 3 years, including 30 modules of egg machine (48 chickens per module).

SAAD Area Coordinator Roger Dave Gramatica said that the group is currently managing 28 modules with 1,344 layer chickens. The first 74 chickens (from two egg machines) were culled and sold at Php 150 per head in June 2020 because the commercial lifespan of chickens producing eggs is only up to 18 months.

He also added that the LICONCO harvests 35-37 egg trays daily with 90.7% productivity, recording a cumulative sales of Php 1,462,667 (Table 2).

Municipal Agriculturist Edu Velasco, Coop Development Officer Marvin Calapiz, Sangguniang Bayan Member Committee Chair on Agriculture Ghing Tulawie, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Representative Arnel Damague and AC Roger Dave Gramatica are working on the requirements for submission to the DTI to avail loan for the purchase of additional 30 modules egg machine.

The DA-SAAD in Zamboanga del Norte commits to continuously mentor and monitor the livelihood of the farmers, ensuring to give the proper assistance to alleviate poverty in the communities. ###
