LANAO DEL NORTE, August 24, 2020 – Some 100 individual farmers in Nunungan received an egg machine, chicken cage, and 6 bags of grower and layer feeds as part of the Php 7.4 million Ready-To-Lay (RTL) Chicken Project of the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program in Northern Mindanao.
The project was procured under the SAAD FY 2019 appropriation, which was downloaded to the municipal local government unit (LGU) of Nunungan.
The project is anticipated to capacitate the marginalized farmers in barangays Masibay (25), Paride (25), Abaga (25), and Katubuan (25) to earn added income from small-scale egg production business. The eligible farmer-beneficiaries were trained on chicken layers’ care, waste management, and basic chicken egg production technology.
“Farming is the main source of living of the people in Nunungan. Livelihood projects provided by SAAD are very beneficial to our farmers in the town,” said Mayor Marcos Mamay of Nunungan as he is grateful that the town has been receiving numerous assistance from the national agencies, particularly from the Department of Agriculture.
“From time to time, we always reminded our SAAD beneficiaries to sustain the project. We are mindful of the ROI (Return on Investment) since this project is an investment of the government,” Mayor Mamay accounted.
Nunungan is among the towns with the widest agricultural lands in Lanao del Norte, making it a high potential for agricultural development, especially with the town’s primary road now fully concreted. The LGU commits to improving the lives of the farmers in the town by continuously urging and guiding them to grow and improve the SAAD projects.
