ELCAC barangay in Cotabato given agri interventions as SAAD supports EO 70

COTABATO, September 02, 2020 – The Department of Agriculture (DA) – Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program in Region 12, together with the 72nd Infantry Battalion and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Pres. Roxas, handed out agricultural interventions to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) – priority barangays in the town. 

A total of 75 members of People’s organizations from the barangays of New Cebu (25 members), Cabangbangan (25 members), and Mabuhay (25 members) have received a total of 42 goats worth Php 713,460.00 under the Dairy Goat Production Project. Each barangays received 13 Doe and 1 buck.

“Sa tagal po ng panahon, ngayon lang po nakapag-abot ng mga proyekto ang gobyerno sa amin. Kaya malaking tulong po ito sa mga pamilya namin,” said Analyn Gregorio, a SAAD farmer-beneficiary in Brgy. Mabuhay.

Aside from the goat production project, farm inputs and tools were also turned over to 100 farmers from the barangays of New Cebu (25 individual farmers), Algeria(25 individual farmers), La Esperanza (25 individual farmers), and Sagcungan(25 individual farmers). They received a total of 100 bolos, 100 hand trowels, 100 shovels and 300 packs of pinakbet seeds (okra, eggplant, ampalaya, and tomato) as part of the Vegetable Production Project for FY 2020 with the total amount of Php 180,000.00. One hundred hectares of land will be planted with vegetables on the 1st week of October. Each individual farmers received a bolo, hand trowel,  shovel and 3 packs of pinakbet seeds (okra, eggplant, ampalaya, and tomato). The interventions given per farmer amount to Php 1,800.00 An estimated 100 hectares will be planted with these crops. 

In his speech, Municipal Mayor Jonathan Mahimpit said that these assistance from the government could promote peace and security in their area. “This activity is an opportunity for all of you to know more about the projects and programs of our government that are intended for you. Our municipality is very fortunate to witness such dedication and hard work coming from the efforts of our LGAs and LGUs in partnership with 72IB. We will keep on doing everything to support you and deliver the services you need.”
