100 Cotabato farmers receive upland rice and vegetable production inputs

COTABATO, August 25, 2020 – A total of 100 farmers from Banisilan will implement the Integrated Upland Rice Production and Vegetable Production project worth Php 1,226,400 from the  Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development 2020 budget.

The farm inputs were distributed to 10 barangays, which are Brgy. Pantar, Brgy. Capayangan, Brgy. Carugmanan, Brgy. Thailand, Brgy. Kalawaig, Brgy. M. Macasarte, Brgy. Sitio Tinago, Brgy. Wadya, Brgy. Poblacion 1 Banisilan, and Brgy. Poblacio 2. Each barangay has 10 individual beneficiaries. 

The distribution was conducted together with the municipal and barangay local government units.

Each farmer received two bags of upland rice seeds, two bags of urea, two bags of complete fertilizer, a knapsack sprayer, three packs of OPV pinakbet seeds (okra, eggplant, ampalaya, and tomato) and a two-day training on upland rice and vegetable production. The interventions given per farmer amount to Php 12,264. 

An estimated 100 hectares will be planted with these crops. The farmer’s recipient planning to start the planting of crops this 2nd week of September 2020. 

During the two-day training, Banisilan Municipal Agriculturist Ms. Marietta G. Nonan emphasized the important ways of planting and maintaining upland rice production. 

She also urged farmers to apply the information she shared. She said, “I hope, na lahat nang naibahagi ko na mga bagong kaalaman ay magamit ninyo sa inyong pagsasaka at pagtatanim. Dahil kung nagamit ninyo ito nang tama ay may malaking ani at malaking kita kayong makukuha. Kung may mga katanungan pa kayo at pangangailangan, bukas po ang tanggapan ng DA-Banisilian at DA-SAAD upang kayo ay tulungan at bigyan ng gabay para masiguro namin ang pag-asenso ninyo. Sana makamit ninyo ang masagana at malaking kita na handog sa atin ng DA-SAAD. Sana bigyan ng halaga at isa-puso natin ito para sa magandang kinabukasan at maunlad na pamilya. Maraming salamat po at mabuhay kayo, mga magsasaka!” .

Furthermore, all 100 farmer-beneficiaries committed that they will sustain the project which aims to secure food supply and add income.
