SAAD releases book to guide program stakeholders on extension service process

QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA, July 7, 2020 – The Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program is delighted to announce the book entitled `Agricultural Extension and Communication: A Theoretical Guide to the Social Preparation of the SAAD Program´ authored by Drs. Rosana P Mula and Myer G. Mula.

Dr. Rosana P. Mula is the Assistant Director of the Agricultural Training Institute while Dr. Myer G. Mula is the Director of the SAAD Program of the Department of Agriculture, who are both former scientists of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics in Patancheru, Telangana, India.

The book mainly aims to provide the SAAD Program’s stakeholders a reference to basic theories and concepts of extension service.

Since SAAD has a social preparation component, the book will help program implementers to carry out relevant and useful strategies in making the agricultural learning process fulfilling and inclusive.

The program’s social preparation empowers marginalized farmer- and fisherfolk-beneficiaries through a series of meetings and training programs (including needs assessment) to ensure their readiness and preparedness to receive livelihood projects.

The book may also be a head start for other departments, local government offices, universities, and practitioners for the continuous improvement of extension service. The authors believe that new knowledge and approaches should be provided to truly empower learners.

A softcopy is available on the program’s website at /books/agricultural-extension-and-communication/. ###
