SAAD Region 7 turns-over Php 1.8M check to benefit 60 Bohol farmers

June 4, 2020

BOHOL, June 1, 2020 – 60 individual farmers from Pres. Carlos P. Garcia will benefit from the Php 1.8 million check that the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program – DA Region 7 turned-over to Bohol Mayor Fernando B. Estavilla.

The amount is intended for the procurement of 60 female carabaos worth Php 30,000.00 per head, which is under the Integrated Carabao-based Production Project for FY 2019.

Two more batches with 120 farmers will still receive carabaos through DA’s procurement in FYs 2020 and 2021.  In total, the project will benefit 180 farmers by 2021.

During the turn-over ceremony, together with the beneficiaries, Mayor Estavilla expressed their deep appreciation to Secretary William Dar for the DA’s continued support to the food production program of the town.

Mayor Estavilla said, “The project will benefit 180 farmers from the six identified barangays of the municipality. The beneficiaries were very happy to know about the financial assistance from the government.”

SAAD Focal Person Aurea M. Madrio shared that the 180 farmers are from 6 barangays namely: Baud, Bogo, Campamanug, Canmangao, Kabankalan, and San Jose. To ensure transparency of the project, SAAD Region 7 staff validated, profiled, and geotagged the beneficiaries.

Furthermore, SAAD Region 7 targets to distribute at least 30 heads of carabaos within the 3rd quarter of this year as soon as Pres. Carlos P. Garcia local government office will be able to complete the procurement process.

The project aims to reduce the cost of farm operation, since the farmers will no longer hire draft animals in land preparation.

SAAD is another project of DA that is seen to influence farmers to become more productive members of society and good partners in attaining food sufficiency program of the government through their farm production. ###
