May 18, 2020

DAVAO DE ORO, April 30, 2020 – A total of 736 farmers underwent validation and profiling for the 2020 project implementation of the Department of Agriculture (DA) – Regional Field Office (RFO) 11’s Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program in the province (formerly Compostela Valley), particularly in the municipalities of Laak, Mabini, Maco, and Nabunturan last April 27 to 30, 2020.

The farmers were from Brgys. Panamoren and Concepcion (Laak), Brgys. Golden Valley and Anitapan (Mabini), Brgys. Tagbaros, Panoraon, Anibongan, and Malamodao (Maco) and San Isidro, Katipunan, and Bayabas (Nabunturan).

The four-day series of validation and profiling of target beneficiaries, spearheaded by the SAAD Regional Program Management Support Office (RPMSO) 11 with the assistance of the Municipal Agricultural Offices and local government unit personnel, is in preparation for the Upland Rice Production Project worth Php 4,456,700.00 and Open-Pollinated Variety (OPV) White Corn Production Project amounting to Php 2,502,700.00.

By May 2020, each farmer is set to receive either 20 kilograms (kgs) bag of OPV white corn seeds or 50 kgs bag of upland rice seeds (Dinorado variety), along with one (1) sack of complete fertilizer and a sack of urea.

For FY 2020, 26 barangays were identified as areas for upland rice production and 31 barangays for OPV white corn production. The areas, selected by the local government units, have high potential and/or are most suitable for the production of the said crops.

As a way forward, the DA-SAAD personnel are mobilized to continually validate and profile the remaining barangays before the release of the agricultural inputs. ###
