MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL, March 11-12, 2020 – Thirty-five (35) Misamis Occidental farmers from the municipality of Bonifacio received Php 1,125,000 worth of interventions for Carabao and Swine Production Project from the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program for Fiscal Year (FY) 2019. The turn-over ceremony was led by Rovil Rodrigo, the Municipal Agriculture Officer (MAO) of Bonifacio.
Eighteen (18) farmers from barangay Kanao-kanao received one carabao each. The intention is to produce fresh milk to back-up the milk feeding program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) is also set to conduct a milk production training to the farmer-beneficiaries.
In support to the milk production program, the beneficiaries were also provided with four (4) bags of fertilizers (ammonium phosphate and ammonium sulfate) to produce corn forage as source of food for the carabaos.
Likewise, seventeen (17) farmers from barangay Buenavista each received two (2) heads of gilt along with the package of three bags gestating feeds, two bags of lactating feeds, drugs and biologics, and materials for the construction of pig pen.
With the reported cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Region 10, the SAAD implementers assured that the gilts were evaluated and tested negative of the virus. Prior to the distribution, the animals were given vitamins A, D, and E. The source of the gilts was from Tubod, Lanao del Norte. ###
