APAYAO, PHILIPPINES—It was raining hard on the 12th of August 2018 as the farmer-partners in Luna, Apayao who are members of the Marag Valley Livelihood Farmers Association happily received the interventions from the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD).
The association is composed of Barangays Bucao, Cagandungan, and Calabigan, however, the farmer-partners present are from Calabigan, and Cagandungan only. They have received thirty-seven (37) sets of garden tools (grab hoe, bolo, shovel, and rake). Fifteen (15) farmer-partners from Calabigan shared ten (10) sets of garden tools, while there were thirty-one (31) farmer-partners in Cagandungan that shared twenty-seven (27) sets of garden tools.
The remaining sets of farm tools will be distributed to Barangay Bucao [wherein twenty-seven (27) farmer-partners are sharing twenty-three (23) sets]; Luyon [with thirteen (13) farmer-partners sharing ten (10) sets]; and Salvacion [with two (2) farmer-partners sharing two (2) sets of garden tools]. Both Barangays Luyon and Salvacion belong to other Farmer Associations—Midstream Livelihood Farmers Association, and Upstream Livelihood Farmers Association, respectively.
On the other hand, there were seventy-two (72) sets of garden tools and thirty-two (32) units of knapsack sprayers allocated for the municipality of Luna. Ninety-three (93) SAAD farmer-partners under the Rice Project shared thirty-two (32) units of the said intervention.
The distribution is led by the SAAD Area Coordinator as assisted by SAAD Agriculture Technician (AT) of Luna Mr. Roniel Dugay, SAAD AT of Sta. Marcela Mr. Roldan Orteza, and SAAD Training Officer Ms. Meliza Feliciano. ###
