DA-SAAD Negros Oriental Conducts Training on Urban Organic Gardening

DUMAGUETE CITY—The Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) conducted a Capability Building and Skills Training on Urban Organic Gardening at Ms. Ann’s Food town, Brgy. Bantayan, Dumaguete City on 5-7 September 2018.

Participants are farmer-partners from four (4) barangays of Dumaguete City namely, Poblacion 7, Poblacion 8, Tabuc-Tubig, and Bagacay. The Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) provided the Resource Speaker for the training.

The training aims to provide farmer-partners new knowledge, skills, technology, behavior and attitude—to build up and continue their competencies and carry out their task more efficiently and resourcefully. Farmers were also given farm interventions like seedling trays; pechay, pepper, eggplant, and tomato seedlings. They were also given vermicast, as well as carbonized rice hull.

Capacity building and skills training were provided for the farmer-partners on crop production and protection, all to help raise their household income and improve their living standards.

SAAD Provincial Program Management Support Office (PPMSO) in Negros Oriental is headed by its Provincial Coordinator (PC) Mr. Jaypee Soldivillo. The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Dumaguete City also supported the activity headed by acting City Agriculturist Mr. Albert Bael.

Following the said activity, the SAAD Area Coordinator (AC) will be monitoring the given interventions in each of the barangay stated. ###
