ZaNorte farmers receive inputs under the SAAD Corn Production Project

ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE—The Department of Agriculture (DA) – Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) in its Regional Satellite Office (RSO) in Zamboanga del Norte (Region IX) organized series of distributions under its Provincial-Wide Corn Production Project from March 8-9, 13, & 15, 2018.

Supported by personnel under the Office of Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG), SAAD-ZaNorte Area Coordinator (AC) Ms. Irish Jane Mallo, continuous monitoring shall be done following the distribution of 165 farm inputs to 38 SAAD farmer-beneficiaries in Barangay (Brgy.) Alvenda, Municipality of Mutia on March 8, 2018.

On the next day, beneficiaries from three (3) barangays namely, Teresita (Piñan), Alvenda (Mutia), and Situbo (Tampilisan) were provided interventions.  Present were OPAG’s Ms. Arlene Taan, representative of the Municipal Agricultural Office (MAO) of Tampilisan, Mr. Lucito Cerna, together with SAAD-ZaNorte AC Mr. Nadzmar Abdulatip, IT Mr. Jeffrey A. Nigos, and Brgy. Captain Ms. Juanita Larato.

44 SAAD farmer-beneficiaries received 11 bags of OPV white corn seeds, 44 bags each of complete fertilizer, & urea fertilizers, as well as 165 bags of organic fertilizers for farm inputs in Brgy. Situbo, Municipality of Tampilisan.

Still under the Provincial-Wide Corn Production Project, twenty-six (26) farmer-beneficiaries of the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program received corn production package of interventions in a simple turn-over ceremony at Rizal, Zamboanga del Norte on March 13, 2018.

The package of interventions consisted of 18 kilograms of Open Pollinated Variety (OPV) white corn seeds, and organic and inorganic fertilizers.  The partner farmer-beneficiaries of SAAD Program are members of San Roque Farmers Association (FA) and Nangkaan FA in the town of Rizal.

Aside from the corn production package, Rizal will also receive twelve (12) modules of caged-layer chicken under the Layer Chicken Livelihood project of farmers from the villages of East Poblacion, New Dapitan, and Sebaca.  Each module of caged-layer chicken also known as “egg machines” has 48 heads of ready-to-lay pullets.  The local government of Rizal has already received the funding support for the provision of the “egg machines” to the pre-identified partner-beneficiaries from the said villages.

Four (4) more municipalities within the Zamboanga del Norte Province, two (2) barangays in Municipality of Godod, three (3) barangays in Leon Postigo, and one (1) barangay each in Sindangan, are also about to be distributed with same inputs.

Meanwhile, on March 15, 2018, 3 ½ bags were received by the farmer-beneficiaries in Brgy. San Jose, Municipality of Sergio Osmeña. A total of 165 bags of organic fertilizers were delivered under the same project.
