Siquijor PLGU in full support of the SAAD Program implementation

SIQUIJOR – Vice Governor Mei Ling Quezon, representing the Provincial Government of Siquijor, said they are in full support of the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program’s implementation in the area for the year 2018.

DA-SAAD Regional Program Management Support Office VII staff as well as SAAD Program National Program Management Office (NPMO) staff led by Ms. Fe Ybañez and Mr. Marvin Segovia conducted a SAAD Orientation in the province last 23rd of November 2017 at SB Session Hall, Larena, Siquijor. The final proposed interventions and the target beneficiaries were presented at the meeting.

The orientation aims to prepare the concerned Siquijor officials, such as Provincial Agriculturist Ramon Taroc, for the SAAD operations in all municipalities – Maria, Lazo, Siquijor, San Juan, Larena, and Enrique Villanueva.

A total number of 3,435 farmer individuals and 29 farmer groups, who will benefit from the SAAD Program’s agricultural assistance, will be identified in Siquijor. They will receive interventions on corn, vegetable, dragon fruit, peanut, goat, and cattle production. Various trainings will also be conducted for the beneficiaries.

Siquijor is one of the 2018 SAAD priority provinces, along with Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Masbate, Southern Leyte, Leyte, Sulu, Compostela Valley, Sultan Kudarat, and Bukidnon. It has a 48.87% poverty incidence rate per family according to the 2015 data of the Philippine Statistics Authority. ###
