Salug LGU commits marketing support to SAAD partner-beneficiaries

SALUG, ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE – The local government of the Municipality of Sagul, Zamboanga del Norte committed as the ‘ready market’ for all the eggs that the Pacuhan and Liguac Farmers’ Association will produce. The two (2) farmers’ associations will receive livelihood assistance from the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program for their Layer Chicken Project.

Dr. Roy Pogador, the Municipal Agricultural Officer of Sagul, in a meeting with the Pacuhan and Liguac Farmers’ Association and the SAAD Program Provincial Coordinator assuaged the fear of the partner-beneficiaries that they will not be able to sell the eggs that will be produced from their respective livelihood projects.  SAAD Program approved the request of the two farmers’ associations for layer chicken project worth P2M.

Pogador said that the local government of Salug commits to support the farmers’ associations either as the bulk buyer of the eggs they will produce or provide market linkage in Zamboanga del Norte province.

He also said that Salug LGU fully supports the livelihood project and would like to be recognized as the “egg producing” town in the province.  There is an acute shortage of chicken eggs in the province, he added.

Meanwhile, the two (2) farmers’ associations agreed to hold a joint one-day Policy Formulation Workshop to prepare the draft of the policy in the implementation of the project including, among others, the profit-sharing scheme and establishment of project development fund.  They also requested the local government unit through the office of the Municipal Agriculturist to conduct technology and management training for efficient egg production project.
