SULU, September 29, 2021 – Forty farmers from Omar, Sulu were granted with Cassava Production Project worth Php 807,120 to cover 21 hectares, a livelihood from 2021 funding by the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program.
Included in the project are the following: cassava stalks, hog wires, and barbwires.
Inputs from the project will help improve their farming methods since the farmers still use the old practices in farming as part of their tradition.
SAAD area coordinator Farhann K. Abdullah facilitated the distribution with the assistance from the local government unit (LGU).
LGU representative Christopher Rey U. Sensibalo said the project reassured the farmers of SAAD’s continuous support.
“The municipal and barangay LGUs showed their support to the SAAD intervention. From indigenous materials, the farmers now have barbed wire and hog wire to protect their farmland. They are delighted that they won’t have to worry about guarding their crops and can maximize their produce with the use of these materials,” said Mr. Abdullah.
Delivery can be challenging because of the distance but the farmers were grateful for the support from the SAAD program.
The farmers are preparing for the installation of the fence and planning to plant the given stalks during the rainy season. ###
