In an effort to improve productivity and strengthen livelihood opportunities, the San Isidro Livestock and Poultry Producers Association in Alcantara, Romblon invested Php 117,572 for the construction of its swine housing facility.

With a total area of 70 square meters, the newly constructed pig pens reflect the association’s commitment to strengthening its swine production enterprise and progressing toward becoming a fully established Community-Based Enterprise (CBE) in the municipality.

The construction took six months, beginning in January and concluding in July 2026. Association members worked collaboratively almost every day to complete the facility, demonstrating their collective effort and commitment to sustaining their livelihood project.

Through the assistance of the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program Phase II, the association received support for its Free Range with Swine Production project, which has been implemented from 2023 to the present.

According to association Treasurer Lysil Galin, the swine production project has significantly contributed to the association’s efforts to improve its income and livelihood.

“Ang swine production ay napakalaking tulong upang umahon at umangat ang kita ng aming asosasyon. Kahit maraming ups and down na naranasan ang aming asosasyon sa pag-aalaga, hindi ito naging hadlang upang kami ay huminto kundi naging motivation pa ito upang kami ay magsikap at maging positibo sa lahat ng bagay para sa ikalalago ng aming asosasyon,” Galin shared.

[Swine production has been a great help in improving our association’s income and livelihood. Although our association has experienced many ups and downs in raising swine, these challenges did not stop us from continuing. Instead, they motivated us to work harder, remain positive, and strive for the continued growth and development of our association.]

Meanwhile, Association President Lemuel Galindez emphasized the importance of having a proper and durable housing facility to ensure the safety and welfare of their swine.

“Ang paggawa ng housing ng baboy ay kabilang sa paghahanda sa mga nag-aalaga ng baboy upang sila ay maalagaan nang maayos at ligtas sa anumang uri ng kalamidad at karamdaman,” Galindez said.

[Building a proper swine housing facility is an important preparation for swine raisers to ensure that their animals are properly cared for and kept safe from various disasters and diseases.]

As of August 2026, the housing facility accommodates five (5) piglets, three (3) fatteners, and 10 sows. The association has also accumulated Php 121,357.55 in bank savings, which it intends to use to sustain and expand its swine production project.

Looking ahead, Galindez said the association plans to expand its swine housing facility to accommodate additional piglets and increase their production capacity.

“Ang plano namin ngayon ay palakihin ang pasilidad ng aming housing ng baboy bilang paghahanda sa pagdami ng aming biik upang sila ay maalagaan nang maayos at paglaki ng aming kita,” Galindez mentioned.

[Our plan now is to expand our swine housing facility in preparation for an increase in the number of piglets, so that we can provide them with proper care while also increasing our income.]

The association’s investment in its swine housing facility reflects its continuing efforts to improve production practices, strengthen its livelihood enterprise, and build a more sustainable source of income for its members with the support of the DA-SAAD Program Phase II.
