The Balogo Small Farmers and Fisherfolk Association of San Sebastian, Samar expanded its poultry production through restocking initiatives and continued assistance from the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program.
The association, composed of 20 members, is a beneficiary of Php1.7 million worth of FY 2024 Egg Production Project under the DA-SAAD Program in Eastern Visayas.
Recently, the group used Php75,000 from their own savings to purchase 150 new hens, reflecting their strong commitment to sustain and expand their poultry enterprise.
This effort was further supported by SAAD through the provision of an additional 90 ready-to-lay (RTL) hens. The arrival of the additional stocks coincided with the association’s own procurement.
Association President Jun-jun Gamot thanked everyone for their ongoing support of the group. He highlighted that funds for restocking were allocated thanks to the members’ cooperation and solidarity.
“Dara hit amon pagburubligay nga asosasyon naging posible ini. Nagpapasalamat liwat kami ha SAAD han iyo suporta,” said Gamot, noting that the additional hens will significantly contribute to their production capacity.
[The cooperation of every member of our association made this possible. We also thank SAAD for their support.]
Mr. Gamot also shared that managing the poultry has become more efficient since all new stock arrived at the same time. This minimized the challenges of adjusting the chickens’ feeding and care practices.
From June 2024 to March 2026, the association recorded a net income of Php354,273.00 from the sale of 92,509 eggs, reflecting the profitability of their enterprise.
The restocking effort is intended to replace culled birds from the original 480 ready-to-lay (RTL) hens provided under the project, while also increasing the number of productive layers. With a larger flock, the Balogo farmers anticipate boosting egg production and restoring a steady supply within their community and neighboring towns.
As of March 2026, the Balogo Small Farmers and Fisherfolk Association maintains 437 RTL hens, with a plan for further expansion. In addition, the group has begun constructing a sari-sari store as part of its efforts to diversify income sources. ###
