Goat raisers in Brgy. Sto. Rosario, Sigay, Ilocos Sur received house-to-house veterinary visits as part of post-distribution monitoring under the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program of the Department of Agriculture.
Farmers in Sitio Napatnay and Sitio Namatingan were visited for the administration of Vitamin B complex and anthelmintic treatment, conducted in coordination with the local government unit of Sigay from April 14 to 15.
The Vitamin B complex supports appetite and recovery, while the anthelmintic treatment is used to control internal parasites that commonly affect goat health and productivity.
Municipal Livestock Inspector Edward Wanagen led the visits, reaching geographically dispersed households without requiring farmers to transport animals.
In addition to administering supplements and deworming medication, the team assessed body condition, signs of parasitic infection, feeding practices and housing conditions to determine the overall health status of the animals after distribution.
Farmers also received on-site guidance on feeding, basic health monitoring and parasite control.
SAAD Area Coordinator Jazzend L. Gannad said the activity forms part of continued engagement with beneficiaries after livestock distribution.
“This is part of ensuring that the support given to farmers translates into actual improvement in livestock condition at the household level,” said Gannad.
SAAD Associate Project Officer Fridlee O. Rodriguez assisted in coordinating the activity and field validation.
The house-to-house approach allowed the team to reach upland and widely dispersed households while providing immediate technical support. ###
