The Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Cagayan Valley successfully conducted a training on Organizational and Financial Management for two SAAD-assisted Farmers’ Cooperatives and Associations (FCAs) in the municipality of Rizal, Cagayan, from July 20 to 21, 2026.
The activity was conducted to strengthen the associations’ organizational governance and financial management while preparing them for cooperative registration and future enterprise operations.
On July 20, 15 members of the Malaueg Food Producers and Farmers Association in Barangay Anungu participated in a Pre-Registration Seminar (PRS) for FCAs and a Training on Financial Statements and Bookkeeping for Non-Accountants.
Ms. Ivonne A. Paredes, Cooperative Development Specialist II, served as the resource person. She emphasized the main goal of the PRS: to prepare and educate prospective members on the basic rules, obligations, and processes involved in establishing a fully registered cooperative.
Meanwhile, on July 21, another 15 members of the Masi Corn Farmers Development Association in Barangay Masi attended the training on Understanding Financial Statements and Bookkeeping for Non-Accountants, facilitated by Ms. Marjorie B. Datul, Project Development Officer I.
The session covered basic accounting principles, bookkeeping procedures, the different types of financial statements and their importance, and the implementation of the Standard Chart of Accounts to help the association improve its financial record-keeping and reporting.
Through the two-day activity, DA-SAAD Cagayan Valley equipped participating FCAs with the knowledge and skills needed to strengthen their organizational management, improve financial accountability, and prepare for cooperative registration.
The SAAD Program ensures that all FCAs will be transformed into cooperatives before the program concludes.
