The Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) distributed about Php 2 million worth of agricultural machinery to seven farmers’ associations (FAs) in Central Luzon on May 27, as part of the Farmers and Fisherfolk Month (FFM) 2026 celebration.

The assistance included corn seeders and fertilizer applicators aimed at improving farm operations and boosting corn production efficiency among SAAD-supported associations in the region.

Each unit, valued at Php 298,000, was turned over to the following associations namely; Cabawangan Corn Farmers Association of Nampicuan, Nueva Ecija; Campos-West Corn Production Farmers Association; Casili Anao Corn Grower Association; Pagdangngayan Ti Mannalon Bantog Farmers Association; and Rizal Livelihood Farmers Association from Anao, Tarlac; as well as Nagkaisang Magsasaka ng Barangay Toledo and Samahang Magsasaka ng Barangay Coral from Ramos, Tarlac. All recipient associations are engaged in corn production.

According to Danilo Figueroa, chairperson of Samahang Magsasaka ng Barangay Coral, the support will greatly help their group and members.

“This is a big help for our association and our members. We sincerely thank the DA-SAAD Program for its continued support to farmers,” Figueroa said.

The distributed machinery is expected to improve the efficiency of corn planting and fertilizer application, reduce labor requirements, and strengthen farm management practices, resulting in higher productivity among beneficiaries.

The Farmers and Fisherfolk Month celebration highlighted the important role of farmers and fisherfolk in ensuring food security and supporting the country’s agricultural development. It also served as a platform to recognize their hard work, dedication, and resilience amid ongoing challenges in the sector.

Through initiatives like this, the Department of Agriculture – SAAD Program continues to strengthen farmer organizations and promote a more productive and sustainable agricultural sector.
