A Project Management Training was conducted by the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Northern Mindanao in Poona Piagapo town, Lanao del Norte last April 7-8, 2026, to advance the agricultural development and enhance the capacity of its farmers’ association.

The training was participated by the 25 members of the Kalimudan Farmers’ Association (KFA) who are the recipients of the program’s Corn and Abaca Production Project. Led by the SAAD area coordinators in Lanao del Norte and in collaboration with the Office of the Municipal Agriculture and Services, the activity equipped the farmers with essential knowledge, skills, and tools to effectively plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate their livelihood initiatives, paving the way for sustainable agricultural practices and increased income.

Throughout the training, the KFA’s farmer-members engaged in various sessions that covered fundamental principles of project management tailored to agricultural livelihood activities.

SAAD Community Development Officer II Raymund L. Bornea, who also served as the resource person for the activity, highlighted the importance of maximizing land utilization and adopting appropriate cropping patterns to optimize seasonal crop production.

The sessions included discussions on improving livestock management, including updates on livestock monitoring schedules and vitamin supplementation to ensure healthier and more productive animals.

Bornea also emphasized the critical role of diligent administrative practices.

“Timely submission of monthly sales and income reports, along with consistent attendance in activities, training, and monthly meetings, is essential for effective project monitoring and ensuring the sustainability of our farmers’ efforts.”

He added that when farmers maintain disciplined record-keeping and active engagement, it amplifies transparency and enables better decision-making and continuous improvement of their livelihood project.

This Food Production and Livelihood initiative is expected to improve the farmers’ ability to plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate their livelihood activities more effectively.

By equipping farmer-members with the right knowledge and skills, the SAAD Program continues to promote sustainable agricultural development, improve productivity, and increase income levels among local farmers. ###
