The Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program conducted a training on Capacity Building on Egg-Based Product Innovation and Processing in Nampicuan, Nueva Ecija, to equip beneficiary farmers with value-adding skills that can generate additional sources of income.
The activity, held last June 30, 2026, enhanced farmers’ knowledge and skills in producing a variety of value-added products using eggs. Since poultry and egg production serve as the primary livelihood intervention of the DA-SAAD Program in the municipality, product innovation was introduced as a strategy to maximize the value of their produce and expand income-generating opportunities.
The training was facilitated by Janine Elizabeth Q. Abel, Teacher III, who discussed the versatility of eggs as a raw material for various food products. Through hands-on demonstrations, participants learned how to prepare egg pie and leche flan – products that they can produce and market to diversify their livelihood and increase the value of their harvested eggs.
“Magandang oportunidad ang training na ito upang madagdagan ang aming kaalaman sa pagnenegosyo. Malaking tulong ito sa aming asosasyon dahil maaari naming gawing karagdagang kabuhayan ang mga natutunan namin at makadagdag sa kita ng aming mga miyembro.” said Rica Ashey Bumagat, Chairperson of the Monic Swine Herd Association.
(The training conducted today provided us with valuable knowledge on entrepreneurship. It is a great opportunity for our association because the skills we learned can be used as a sustainable livelihood in the future and serve as an additional source of income for our farmers.)
A total of 16 participants attended the training, representing the Ambassador Swine Association, Maeling Poultry Farmers Association, Mayantoc Duck Farmers Association, Medico Hog Raisers Association, and Monic Swine Herd Association.
The training formed part of the DA-SAAD Program’s continuing efforts to strengthen the entrepreneurial capacity of beneficiary farmers by promoting value-adding activities and enterprise development.
Through initiatives such as this, the program continues to help farmers maximize the potential of their agricultural products, improve household income, and build more sustainable livelihoods.
