Demonstrating its commitment to sustaining and expanding its poultry enterprise, the Maltana Farmers and Fisherfolks Association (MFFA) in Barangay Maltana, Tampakan, South Cotabato, successfully constructed a new poultry house worth Php 95,153 using income generated from its poultry project.
Construction of the facility started on February 27, 2026, and was completed this month of June. The project was funded entirely through earnings from the association’s poultry operations, reflecting the group’s effective enterprise management and prudent reinvestment of project proceeds.
According to MFFA President Juve Escobillo, the new poultry house was built to accommodate the expansion of the association’s layer chicken production. The previous facility had limited space and could no longer house the additional poultry intervention scheduled for delivery this year.
The association is set to receive 730 head of layer chickens and 100 bags of feeds through the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program.

Ang amon dati nga poultry house indi na makasarang sa additional nga mga manok nga ihatag pa ni SAAD subong nga tuig. Kinahanglan gid namon ang mas lapad nga lugar para mas mapauswag pa ang amon produksyon kag pangabuhi sang mga miyembro sang asosasyon,” Escobillo shared.
(We constructed this new poultry house to provide a larger and more accessible facility for our poultry production. Our previous poultry house can no longer accommodate the additional layer chickens that SAAD will provide this year. We truly need a bigger space so that we can further improve our production and enhance the livelihood of the association’s members.)
Aside from space limitations, the former poultry house was located farther from many association members, resulting in additional transportation costs and making regular monitoring and management of the project more challenging.
To maximize the use of the new facility, the association has already developed a management plan. All layer chickens currently housed in the old poultry house will be sold upon completion of their production cycle. The additional 730 poultry stocks will then be transferred to the newly constructed facility, allowing the association to expand its operations and improve flock management.
The construction was completed through a combination of hired labor and the collective efforts of association members who contributed through bayanihan. Their participation demonstrated the organization’s unity and shared commitment to the success of their enterprise.
With 20 active members, MFFA continues to strengthen its poultry production venture as a sustainable source of income and livelihood. The new poultry house is expected to increase production capacity, improve project management, and enhance the overall efficiency of the association’s operations.
The successful completion of the facility highlights how farmer organizations can strategically reinvest enterprise earnings to support long-term growth and sustainability. It also reflects the goals of the DA-SAAD Program in developing self-reliant farmer organizations capable of sustaining and expanding their livelihood enterprises beyond project assistance.
