The Gandawan Strawberry Growers’ Association (GSGA), a farmers’ association (FA) under the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program, in Don Victoriano Chiongbian, Misamis Occidental, has harvested over four tons of cabbage from their communal garden.

This harvest earned the group a total of Php 62,944, after they harvested 4,129 kilograms of cabbage and sold it to their buyers at Php 10 to 30/kg.

The successful sale not only provided the association with immediate income but also demonstrated their capacity to produce and market high-value crops effectively.

Encouraged by their success, the group plans to cultivate suitable crops in their communal garden, which will help sustain the momentum gained from their harvest and expand their outreach to new markets, including local buyers in Dipolog City and Pagadian City.

GSGA is among the FAs covered under Phase 2 of the SAAD Program in Misamis Occidental. The group, composed of 25 farmers from Barangay Gandawan, is a beneficiary of the Program’s Enhanced High-Value Crop Production Project.

Profits from their harvest are set to be reinvested into the communal garden. The association intends to finance the procurement of better seeds, soil enhancement activities, and possible expansion of their planting area. ###
