The Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program in Northern Mindanao is set to implement Php 42.85 million worth of agricultural livelihood projects this year to support the enterprise development of smallholder farmers across the region.
Anchored on an agricultural value chain approach, the DA-SAAD NorMin has lined up production-to-marketing interventions for 27 farmers’ associations and cooperatives (FCAs) assisted by the program in the region.
In addition to providing mechanized equipment for production, postharvest handling, and value-added processing, the program will also distribute tri-wheel transport vehicles to qualified FCAs to help them efficiently market their products.
Other programmed interventions for 2026 include farming materials and supplies, ready-to-lay chicken and duck packages, poultry and hog feeds, veterinary drugs and biologics, vegetable seeds, and food processing supplies.
The program has also designed participatory rural appraisal and specialized training on food production and livelihood management, including accounting fundamentals and cost analysis. These initiatives aimed to enhance the farmers’ skills in managing and expanding their enterprises.
Now in the second half of Phase 2 implementation, DA-SAAD NorMin continues to augment the start-up livelihood projects of FCAs and guide them toward scaling up their operations into sustainable agri-enterprising.
Farmer-beneficiaries in the provinces of Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental and Camiguin are being supported in adopting diversified farming systems through the integration of additional crops and livestock to increase productivity and income.
Currently, DA-SAAD NorMin is implementing 27 agri-enterprise projects, including Enhanced High Value Crops Production, Integrated Corn and High Value Crops Production, Integrated Livestock and High Value Crops Production, Integrated Poultry and High Value Crops Production, and Integrated Poultry, Corn and High Value Crops Production. ###
