The Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program in Cagayan Valley conducted a Capacity Building Activity on Organizational Strengthening for the Patanad Farmers Association in Barangay Patanad, San Isidro, Isabela last April 28, 2026, as part of its continuing efforts to strengthen grassroots farmer organizations.
The activity was attended by 30 members of the association, which forms part of the program’s Social Preparation component focused on enhancing farmers’ organizational capacity, leadership, and participation in development initiatives.
It covered key topics on leadership, teamwork, advocacy, networking, and linkaging to help members build a more resilient and sustainable organization. Through workshops, discussions, and group exercises, participants gained practical knowledge on organizational management while reinforcing collaboration, accountability, and unity within the association.
Enterprise Development and Marketing Officer Rey C. Aquilana served as the resource speaker and emphasized the importance of strong leadership and organized farmer groups in achieving long-term growth and sustainability.
He highlighted the need for farmers’ associations to establish partnerships and expand networks with government agencies, private institutions, and market stakeholders to improve access to technical assistance, livelihood opportunities, and market support.
The activity was facilitated by Community Development Officers Marwin Mariano and Ceasar Ian Soliven, who guided the discussions and encouraged active participation among the members.
A major highlight of the training was the discussion on strengthening linkages and partnerships, which are considered essential in helping farmer organizations access resources, technical services, and sustainable market opportunities that can improve their economic condition.
The DA-SAAD Program Cagayan Valley continues to implement capacity-building initiatives under its Social Preparation component to help ensure the sustainability of agricultural interventions and strengthen the role of organized farmers’ associations in rural development.
With this, the Patanad Farmers Association expressed its gratitude to the program, resource speaker, and facilitators for their continued support in supporting farming communities through organizational development activities. ###
