Reinforcing its commitment to delivering quality agricultural interventions, the Department of Agriculture – Negros Island Region (DA-NIR) conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Ready-to-Lay (RTL) chickens and poultry feeds distributed under the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program in Siquijor last July 21, 2026.
The inspection is part of the agency’s quality assurance process to verify that all livestock inputs complied with program specifications before their official acceptance and use by beneficiary farmers’ associations. The activity also ensures that government-funded interventions are delivered in good condition and are capable of providing the intended livelihood benefits to recipient communities.
Eight (8) farmers’ associations in Siquijor each received three (3) sets of Ready-to-Lay (RTL) chickens and 68 bags of poultry feeds to support community-based egg production enterprises. The livelihood intervention seeks to provide participating organizations with an additional and sustainable source of income while contributing to improved household food security.
The inspection was led by Ms. Agnes Guanella M. Cafe, Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer (APCO) for Siquijor, and Ms. Margrette Magsanay, Alternate Center Chief of the DA–Siquijor Research and Development Center (SRDC), together with members of the Inspectorate Team. The team assessed the health and condition of the chickens, verified the quantity and quality of the feeds delivered, and confirmed that all items met the technical specifications and procurement requirements of the SAAD Program.
The activity also demonstrated DA-NIR’s commitment to the responsible management of public resources by ensuring that beneficiary associations receive complete, functional, and quality agricultural inputs. Such measures help maximize the impact of government investments and support the long-term success of livelihood projects in rural communities.
The Ready-to-Lay Chicken Project is among the livelihood interventions implemented under the SAAD Program to help marginalized farming communities establish resilient and income-generating enterprises. By promoting poultry production, the project enables beneficiaries to diversify their sources of income, increase local egg production, and enhance food availability within their communities.
