Taking meaningful steps toward sustainable livelihood development, the farmer-members of the Tangaro Young Farmers’ Association (TYFA) in Barangay Tangaro, Catarman, Camiguin underwent Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) Revisit and Retooling Training on October 8 and 15, 2025.

Conducted by the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program, the training aimed to strengthen the farmers’ planning, monitoring, and implementation skills. It helped them improve their current livelihood initiatives and prepare for the establishment of a Community-Based Enterprise (CBE) by 2028.

This effort also supported the Program’s goal of shifting from project-dependent assistance to self-sustaining community enterprises that promote long-term economic resilience.

Through workshops and focus group discussions, TYFA members reviewed their ongoing SAAD-supported interventions, assessing resource use, market prospects, and production challenges.

The PRA retooling activity helped the farmers identify areas for improvement and explore ways to expand their livelihood efforts.

“The PRA retooling allows farmers to actively plan and align their projects with enterprise goals. By 2028, we envision TYFA becoming a fully operational CBE, managing integrated farming activities sustainably,” said Brenda Montesino, Associate Project Officer of the SAAD Program.

Catarman Municipal Agriculturist Joseph Navales expressed his appreciation for the initiative, noting that continuous capacity-building activities like the PRA retooling help farmers become not just beneficiaries, but active planners and decision-makers in their development journey.

Following the training, TYFA members developed updated action plans and livelihood roadmaps to support their transition from project-based assistance to a self-sustaining community enterprise under the SAAD Program.
